Spikenard, or Jatamansi essential oil is a relaxing and sedative essential oil that is high in valerinol and valerianal. For this reason it is often used in place of Valerian essential oil in blends for relaxation and muscle relief.

Spikenard can also be used in blends to support healthy sleep and would be effective in this case for a mist or in a diffuser.

Spikenard has also been used historically in religious ceremonies and to enhance meditation.
